Having fallen in love with the island after holidaying here a number of times, we purchased 11 Upper Milovaig as our holiday home in 2005. In 2013 we decided to make it our permanent residence. Later that year we had the opportunity to buy the property next door, and, as you can see, who could resist this beautiful traditional crofting cottage. The cottage is one of the oldest buildings in Glendale and was occupied by the McCrae family as part of the original crofting settlement. We are conscious of its place in the history of the community and have made every effort to retain its original form and appearance of both the building and the associated land.
Allt Mor’s importance is recognised by its Grade B listing and we have taken care to retain its character, whilst making it habitable for (hopefully) another 200 years. In order to make it suit modern living, we have added a small extension to the rear of the property to provide a large bedroom and bathroom area. Designed by a local architect, the extension is barely visible from the road and seeks to replicate what is a traditional relationship between a cottage and its weaving shed.
Allt Mor now retains all of the charm and historical importance of these cottages, with the added benefit of being a functional living space.
We hope you enjoy your stay in our lovely cottage, and we are sure that the irresistible nature of the Isle of Skye will stay with you forever as it has with us.
